Love pt. 2
What is the work that Jesus has for us? While I don't have my reference books with me, Jesus does want us to work. Why else would he talk about this? What kind of work? Jesus mentions in Matthew about the workers for the harvest.
Paul says of himself and the fellow apostles that they are God's fellow workers in 1 Co 3:9. Fellowship implies togetherness; so Paul is writing here that he is working together with God. What work does God do? Well, he makes things grow. Because Paul says, So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters are anything, but God, who makes things grow. So then, the work that we are to do can really be thought of as working in the field. What is needed for farming? Well, first, there needs to be a field. The earth is that field. What comes next? Someone needs to till the ground, to prepare it for seed. Then someone needs to actually plant the seed. That, I believe, is the first thing that we as humans do. Someone needs to water the seed, to help it grow. But God is the one that makes things grow. The seed is the word. The word is Jesus. Someone needs to plant and someone needs to water. Satan can come to take the seed before it takes root and weeds can grow up to choke the plant.
So, an analysis of the different types of seed:
The seed on the path:
- hears but does not understand
- evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart
- as soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them
- The seed sown in rocky places:
- receive the word with joy when they hear, but have no root
- believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away
- at once receive it with joy, but with no root, last only a short time
- hears the word, but worries of this life and deceitfulness of wealth choke
- made unfruitful
- hear, but as they go on their way are choked by life's worries, riches and pleasures
- do not mature
- hear the word, but worries of life, deceitfulness of wealth, desire for other things choke the word
- made unfruitful
Seed sown on good soil:
- hears the word and understands it
- stands for those with a noble and good heart
- hear the word and retain it
- hear and accept the word
- produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty, or thirty times
- by persevering produce a crop
- produce a crop- thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times what was sown
mt 13 3 When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path. The one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receive it with joy. But since he has no root, he last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away. The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful. But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hers the word and understands it. he produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty, or thirty times what was sown.
lk 8 11 The seed is the word of God. Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. Those on the rock are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away. The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life's worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature. But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good hear, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.
mk 4 3 some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. Others, like seed sown in rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word, but the worries of this life the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept, and produce a crop- thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown.
So, then, what are we to do with this? I believe that if this is in the bible, than it is important. Are we supposed to know what types of soil different people can be? The bible does say that the heart is deceitful. If we do not know our own heart, then how can we proclaim to know the hearts of others?
So, we know that there is a field, that God makes the field, and that God prepares the field. We know that someone goes out to plant, and that others water. But it is God that makes things grow. What happens after? Well, there is a parable that Jesus tells of what happens. A landowner planted good seed in his field. But later, weeds sprouted up with the wheat. His tenants asked him, sir, didn't you sow good seed in your field? His reply was, 'an enemy did this.' do you want us to go and pull them up? No, because in doing so you may pull up the wheat with the weeds. Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters, tie weeds in bundles to be burned, then gather the wheat into my barn.'
As Peter says, "Now that y ou have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart." 1Pe1:22 How can we do this? This must be faith combined with good works.
As Ephesians says, it is by grace we have been saved, through faith, and this not of ourselves, it is the gift of God so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ jesus to go good works, which he prepared in advance for us to do.

Psalm 37
I've been reading psalm 37, written by King David around the time that his son Solomon was anointed as the succeeding king over Israel. One thing that I want to point out is the use of the word fret. In English, the general meaning that we are familiar with is this one: To feel or express worry, annoyance, discontent, or the like. But the Hebrew that David uses is different. The word that David means is literally 'to glow or to get warm,' figuratively 'to blaze up in anger.' Since this psalm reads more like a proverb, the first thing that I did with this psalm was to break it down into different topics. The bold is what I originally journaled and the different font is what I added later.
Characteristics and/or actions of the wicked:
Evil men do wrong, succeed in their ways, carry out their wicked schemes, plot against the righteous, gnash their teeth against the righteous, draw the word and bend the bow, slay those whose ways are upright. The wicked borrow and do not replay, lie in wait for the righteous, seeking their very lives.
It is important for those who profess to follow God to remember "bad company corrupts good character." Who we hang out with reflects a lot on our lifestyle as well as influences it. But if we are to do that then we need to be discerning about who the wicked really are. If you wish to do more research on the wicked, click HERE. But there are several characteristics of the wicked found on the link above: The affections of the wicked are not sincerely set on God and are unnatural and perverted. The wicked seek happiness in amusements and worldly pleasures and abstinence from these things seems strange to them. But most important thing for us to remember is that the wicked forget God and are averse to glorifying Him. If we really want to grow closer to God, then we need to surround ourselves by people whose desire is the same. It is also important to examine ourselves and ask if any of those things apply to us. My answer is that they apply to me. The first thing that I think about in the morning is not the Lord. It is usually how much time I have to shower and eat breakfast before I have to be somewhere. I also allow things like homework and web browsing to get in the way of following God closely.
Characteristics and/or actions of the righteous:
Meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace, will not wither in times of disaster, in days of famine, they will enjoy plenty, give generously, may stumble but will not fall, righteous never shaken or children begging bread, always generous and lending freely, their children will be blessed, righteous will be protected forever, will inherit the land and dwell in it forever, utters wisdom from his mouth, tongue speaks what is just, feet don't slip.
Surefooted. Wise. Confident. Knowing the future. Trusting in the Lord. Being fruitful and productive in times of famine. To read more about it, click HERE.
Consequences of being wicked:
Whither like the grass, die like green plants, will be cut off, pierce their own hearts with their own swords, bows will be broken, will perish, vanish like smoke in the fields, offspring will be cut off, pass away and be no more, be destroyed, future will be cut off.
This goes along with choosing our company. As God says, "Man looks at the outside appearance, but I look at the heart." And so should we if we are to be like God. Things that are pretty on the outside, like flowers and green stems, are only going to whither. If we make friends with people that are pretty and attractive and always make sure they have a smile on their face and the right makeup and clothes, are into the same things we are in and think like us, then when winter comes, all those flowers and lush plants that you called your friends will whither and die, and the only things left standing are the ugly barren trees that we may have initially rejected. But they will be around next season to again offer their shelter and shade.
Rewards for the righteous
Enjoy safe pasture, given the desires of their heart, their righteousness will be made to shine like the dawn, the justice of their cause will shine like the noonday sun, inherit the land, enjoy great peace, inheritance endure forever, dwell in land forever, inherit the land and dwell in it forever, will not be left to their on power or condemned when brought to trial, helped, delivered, and saved.
The major emphasis here is on remaining in the land. If we choose to be planted by trees near a stream of water, then we will always remain in the land even when the people around us spiritually whither and die. We will always be green, always produce fruit, always be nourished as long as we are willing to relocate to the place where God chooses for us to be (not necessarily a physical place) and remain planted there; not turning with envy to those around us who may seem to have it all.
What does David tell us to do?
Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong. Trust in the Lord and do good. Dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight ourselves in the Lord and commit our way to the Lord, trust in him. Be still before the Lord. Do not fret when men succeed in their ways. Refrain from anger and turn from wrath. Do not fret. Turn from evil and do good, wait for the Lord and keep his way. Consider the blameless, observe the upright.
David is telling us not to blaze up in anger when people around us appear to be successful when they are not doing right. He simply advises us to wait for the Lord and trust in him.
We are also to observe those around us who are doing right and model ourselves after them. Not to the point of idolatry, but we can be encouraged by those who are growing spiritually or can be looked to as spiritual leaders for encouragement and direction. I pray that my life may be this to other people.
What does this mean for us?
To summarize in one sentence, David says: Turn away from the evil world and look toward heaven and be still before the Lord. If we do this, then all the wonderful blessings that David talks about will be bestowed upon us. God loves you and wants to bless you with peace and joy and direction, but our sinfulness often times walls him off. What we put into our minds, whether it be TV or music has a profound effect on our attitude, what company we keep, and what are thoughts are on. Music is the only thing that has the power to implant its message into our brains no matter what it is, and there isn't anything we can do about it except not to listen to it next time. It is important to remember this.
Lord, help me to do this. Help me to commit my ways to you and to trust in you. Amen.

time
The Lord has been speaking to me a lot about time, and I decided that I would put this here on facebook, because the Lord wants to use this generation but he can't because we don't give him the time.
In psalm 118 verses 18 and 19, the psalmist says the following:
The LORD has chastened me severely,
but he has not given me over to death.
19 Open for me the gates of righteousness;
I will enter and give thanks to the LORD.
20 This is the gate of the LORD
through which the righteous may enter.
21 I will give you thanks, for you answered me;
you have become my salvation.
The psalmist knew that they would open for him. He declared- this is the gate, the gate of the Lord- only the righteous can enter it. I will give you thanks follows.
What is the Lord's answer? To save us. How often are we amazed at the Lord saving us? Should we be? Should we marvel at it? Or should we expect him to do it? What should our response be? Feel free to comment on this one. Following are my thoughts on the matter.
On the one hand, we should have faith. But on the other, we should never stop being thankful of what the Lord is doing. Taking something for granted means you don't care about it. Again this comes down to time. Time is your most valuable asset, so valuable that people are willing to pay you for it. Time is short. There’s only 24 hours in a day. 8 of those should spent sleeping, so there's 16 left. Another 8 is spent working at a full time job, plus travel time. Then you factor in breakfast and supper, morning preparations, daily tasks, etc. There's not a lot of time in the day. And young people (myself included) have more time than adults do. We don't work 8 hours a day. Most don't sleep 8 hours a night. We may not eat three meals a day. So, then, why is it that we all have to do homework the night before, miss our classes, and don't have time to serve? Because we are froogle with our time. We don't value it. We'll work hard at a job if someone is paying us to do it. What about God? Doesn't have a stake in this? Your life and time maybe free to you, but Jesus paid a very high price for it.
This is something that I desperately need to work on. I need to be more efficient with my time. Please don't think that I am judging anyone. I just see the people around me and I try to be an example, but I don't think I am succeeding in that.
I will just close in saying this. Your actions speak louder than words. Your actions let others know where God truly is in your life. And the bible says that faith without works is as good as dead and can't and won't you save you. What are you willing to put aside to seek after God? Do you sleep through chapel? Do you let your homework get backed up so you miss fellowship with friends or miss chapel? Do you say that you're too busy to get involved in any ministries? If you’re saved, if you have the Holy Spirit, then you have spiritual gifts. It's promised. But you're given them to use them. And if you don't, then they won't develop, they won't multiply, and you'll never figure out what your passion is. The greatest gift will turn out to be your greatest passion. Coming from a secular society forces a person to live their Christian lives on a much deeper and more involved level than what I am finding here on a Christian campus. It's so easy to slip into a lukewarm contentment. Our professors pray for us, everything is handed to us, and everything is ok. The presence of the enemy is not felt very strongly here. When was the last time you were persecuted by Satan? Have you ever been persecuted by Satan?
If he's leaving you alone, then you're leaving God alone, and you're not a bother to him.
I do not say this to mean. I say this because my heart is seeking true, unadulterated and un-perverted passion from and for the Lord in the people around me, and I have not been finding it as much as I wanted to, coming here.
The presence of the Lord is strong in the faculty, in the student leadership, but what about you?

This is for my potential readers who do not have access to my facebook or myspace.
Pray for me.
Last night was an interesting night. I was lying in bed, trying to fall asleep, when I began to feel depressed. I felt like I was backed up and behind in my school work, I didn't feel like I knew what I was supposed to be doing, and I felt overwhelmed in my spanish. It was so powerful that my stomach churned and bubbled and loudly announced its presence in my body.
After a period of this going on, I realized that the enemy was doing this, and I was letting him get away with it. So I began to pray, in my mind. Didn't move a muscle, just spoke to the Lord in my thoughts. I rebuked Satan, cast him away from me, and asked the Lord to send a legion of angels to protect me and shelter me underneath his wings. Shortly after I did this, I lay in bed, looking at and listening to the fan, and I realized that I even though the fan was loud in my ears, the world was quiet to my soul. My soul heard the loudest silence that it had ever heard, a silence so loud that I heard it even though the fan was running. I felt a peace so strong, and I don't believe I have ever felt a peace like that before.
Now you may think me crazy, but this is why I titled my title the way that I did. While I was lying in my bed, I heard a voice. A voice speaking to me that was not my own. It came with the fan. It was very dark and evil, and it was laughing at me. And after I prayed, I saw flashes in my eyes that looked light bunches of light descending from on high unto the earth. I knew that that was God's answer to my prayer.
As Christians, I think we don't give Satan enough credit. We ignore his existence.
What penalty is there in prayer and rebuttal of the devil? So what if he's not there? What if we are mistaken? Are we going to be punished because we thought the evil one was there and he wasn't? I think not.
I do not think that I have ever been mistaken in treating everyday normal seeming things as works of the devil or one of his legions. I was eating food on a break with a girl that I work with that suffered from heat exhaustion and had to go the emergency room once. She wasn't feeling well, so in my mind one day I prayed silently, and rebuked the presence of satanic forces around her. Shortly after my prayer, she popped her head up, and finished her cigarette, and seemed to feel much better. Coincidence? Again, I think not.
The Lord loves you. He wants you to succeed. He wants you to do well, be happy in your calling. He wants you to be well rested, well nourished physically and spiritually. He wants you to use your time efficiently so you can serve him and still be able to do your homework. Satan, being the evil force that opposes us, tries to keep us from these things. And by denying his existence we give him victory. That's right, we give him victory. Jesus gave us power over him, but how can we use it if we don't seek its source, and if we don't believe there are ever opportunities to use it? How can we teach others how to live in the freedom of Christ when we ourselves choose to live in bondage to routines, thought processes, habits, and obessions? What keeps you from God? What keeps you from being filled with the Spirit and recieving the blessings that God wants to pour on you? Jesus said blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they will be filled. What about those that are already content? They recieve nothing. God wants to give us gifts, but we have to open the door and sign for them, otherwise they will pile up behind the door. And even though God's gifts are free, they sometimes require sacrifice in order to use them. With everything comes a tradeoff. With every investment of your time, you are trading something for something else. If time is the most valuable thing a man has, then shouldn't time be the thing that we give most to God? Isn't your time really His time, since he bought and purchased you anway? Do you sit around and talk to your coworkers about non work related things when you are on the clock? You're not supposed to, that's not what you're getting paid to do. What are you doing on God's time? Is he getting his money's worth?
Comments are welcome.
This doesn't have to be us, yet it often is.

It's me drumming again.
Becca recorded this with her camera, and it does not cut out. I got a little hestitant at the end because I knew my time limit was coming and I wasn't sure how to end what I was doing.

Valentnes Day
We had toast and yogurt for breakfast because we didn't want too be too full for the buffet.
This is Becca's last thing, the chocolate heart. I hid it in the drawer of the table and made her help me move it so she would find it. One of the choclates tasted like sherbert because it had orange filling on the inside.
This is one that Becca recorded. Becca's sense of time is like that on Polar Express, because in the movie it was always five till, and here in the car it will always be four till.
This is the last video, unfortunately. You should really try these out sometime, they actually work good, when they're not pushing your back too hard.
